چکیده

Consider a set of d-dimensional points where the existence or the location of each point is determined by a probability distribution. The convex hull of this set is a random variable distributed over exponentially many choices. We are interested in finding the most likely convex hull, namely, the one with the maximum probability of occurrence. We investigate this problem under two natural models of uncertainty: the point (also called the tuple) model where each point (site) has a fixed position si but only exists with some probability πi, for 0 < πi ≤ 1, and the multipoint model where each point has multiple possible locations or it may not appear at all. We show that the most likely hull under the point model can be computed in O(n) time for n points in d = 2 dimensions, but it is NP–hard for d ≥ 3 dimensions. On the other hand, we show that the problem is NP–hard under the multipoint model even for d = 2 dimensions. We also present hardness results for approximating the probability of the most likely hull. While we focus on the most likely hull for concreteness, our results hold for other natural definitions of a probabilistic hull.

Sweep Line Algorithm for Convex Hull Revisited

Convex hull of some given points is the intersection of all convex sets containing them. It is used as primary structure in many other problems in computational geometry and other areas like image processing, model identification, geographical data systems, and triangular computation of a set of points and so on. Computing the convex hull of a set of point is one of the most fundamental and imp...

L-CONVEX SYSTEMS AND THE CATEGORICAL ISOMORPHISM TO SCOTT-HULL OPERATORS

The concepts of $L$-convex systems and Scott-hull spaces are proposed on frame-valued setting. Also, we establish the categorical isomorphism between  $L$-convex systems and Scott-hull spaces. Moreover, it is proved that the category of $L$-convex structures is  bireflective in the category of $L$-convex systems. Furthermore, the quotient systems of $L$-convex systems are studied.

Assessing 3-D Uncertain System Stability by Using MATLAB Convex Hull Functions

This paper is dealing with the robust stability of an uncertain three dimensional (3-D) system using existence MATLAB convex hull functions. Hence, the uncertain model of plant will be simulated by INTLAB Toolbox; furthermore, the root loci of the characteristic polynomials of the convex hull are obtained to judge whether the uncertain system is stable or not. A design third order example for u...

An Empirical Evaluation of Preconditioning Data for Accelerating Convex Hull Computations

The convex hull describes the extent or shape of a set of data and is used ubiquitously in computational geometry. Common algorithms to construct the convex hull on a finite set of n points (x,y) range from O(nlogn) time to O(n) time. However, it is often the case that a heuristic procedure is applied to reduce the original set of n points to a set of s < n points which contains the hull and so...

A cone theoretic Krein-Milman theorem in semitopological cones

In this paper, a Krein-Milman  type theorem in $T_0$ semitopological cone is proved,  in general. In fact, it is shown that in any locally convex $T_0$ semitopological cone, every convex compact saturated subset is the compact saturated convex hull of its extreme points, which improves the results of Larrecq.
